Woman’s Sphere Cartoon
This political cartoon is of unknown origin, but addresses a woman's right to vote.
1. Do you think it was designed to promote the cause of women's suffrage, or not?
2. What messages about women does the cartoon contain? What would you infer about the cartoonist's attitudes about women's suffrage?
This critical thinking skill is included because of the many political cartoons students will encounter in government courses. Have students practice frequently with the template using sample cartoons found in their textbooks, newspapers, and news magazines. Below is the political cartoon that students will use in this lesson. Make an overhead transparency or individual student copies.
