U.S. HISTORY

Studying U.S. History helps us understand the rights Americans value and the responsibilities of our democracy. The most important part of a story or paragraph is the main idea. How can you find the main idea of a passage? Each paragraph focuses on a specific topic. The main idea is presented in the topic sentence, which is normally found in the first or last sentence of a paragraph. Sometimes the main idea is not stated clearly in one sentence. In that case, as yourself: “What one thing is the writer talking about throughout the paragraph?”
WORLD HISTORY

World History is an ongoing feud for the most power, intimidation, and respect. Studying World history helps us find the value of the past, in hopes of bettering the future. An implication is a hint toward a certain idea or concept. You can recognize Implications by facts and conclusions the writer points out. The rest will be drawn from the material in the story.
