Political cartoons have been used for years to express political opinions. These drawings, usually found in newspapers, are a way of attacking political figures. We will take a different look by using some videos. The videos will help explain how to interpret a political cartoon. Watch the video and answer the questions that follow.

The Three Step Method for Political Cartoons
Step1: Read and UNDERSTAND what the question is asking you. Find signal words and look for positive or negative words.
Step 2: Breakdown every part of the cartoon: pictures, titles, labels. EVERYTHING!!!!!!
Step 3: Read each answer choice and then look at the cartoon. Ask yourself "do I see this answer in the cartoon?" If the answer is NO then it is not the right choice.
1. What issues are displayed in the cartoon?
2. What is the artist implying by placing both animals in the hospital room together?
3. Why Did the artist use an elephant and donkey?
